There are a wide range of aged-care and disability services that can provide information and help to parties at NCAT.

Legal assistance with your matter

Community Justice Centres provide free mediation services. They can help family members who disagree on how to help a person who cannot make their own decisions.

Intellectual Disability Rights Service (IDRS) is a free service. The service helps people with intellectual or other cognitive impairment. They provide legal and advocacy services to promote and protect people's rights.

Legal Aid NSW Elder Abuse Service provides help to older people that experience or are at risk or abuse.

Legal Aid NSW - Mental Health Advocacy Service provides free legal advice and information. They can give independent advice about all areas of mental health law.

Seniors Ri​ghts Service provide free advocacy advice and legal services. Their services are confidential and for older people in NSW.

Other organisations that may help

Aged Care Assessment Teams (ACAT) carry out assessments of your aged-care needs. They can also help connect you to a service. It is usually necessary for the ACAT to receive a referral from your doctor to provide services.

Ageing and Disability Commission helps to protect older people and adults with disability. They provide support and information to reduce and prevent abuse, neglect and exploitation. NSW Ageing and Disability Abuse Helpline – 1800 628 221.

Australian Department of Health provides information about issues relating to health and ageing. You can find out about what services they fund and how older Australians can access them. 

Carers NSW offer support, service information and advice to carers. This includes carers of the frail aged and people with disabilities. Free call 1800 242 636.

Centrelink deliver social security payments and services to Australians. They can make payments to a family member or friend nominated by a person entitled to a payment. This may remove the need for a formal financial management order.

Cerebral Palsy Alliance provides information and advice and a variety of services. This information is available to people with cerebral palsy, their families and carers.

Combined Pensioners and Superannuants Association (CPSA) offers support, service information and advice. They promote the rights and dignity of pensioners and superannuants.

Council on the Ageing (COTA) NSW provide information on issues relating to the aged. They represent the rights and interests of the aged and provide counselling services.

Deaf Australia NSW provides specialist services for Deaf and hard of hearing people in NSW. They also provide family programs and support.

Dementia Australia NSW provide information and support to people who have dementia. They also provide services for the family and carers of people who have dementia. Dementia helpline - 1800 100 500.

Department of Veterans' Affairs offer a range of services for veterans. They also provide support and services to their families. This includes pensions, medical and home care services, support supplements, loans and advice.

Down Syndrome NSW provide information, advice and help to people with Down syndrome. They also provide service and support to families and carers.

Mental Health Carers NSW is an organisation that provides advocacy, education and support. Their services are for carers of people who experience mental illness who are living in NSW.

Multicultural Disability Advocacy Association (MDAA) provides service information, advice and support. They assist people with a disability that are from a non-English speaking background. They also support their families and carers.

NSW Department of Health runs the NSW Area Health Service. They fund public health services, develop policy and manage public health issues. They also track the performance of the health system.

NSW Public Guardian is a public official appointed by NCAT as a guardian. This service can assist a person who is unable to make their own decisions. The Guardian Support Services provides information and support to private guardians.

NSW Trustee and Guardian provide independent and impartial executor, administrator and trustee services. Services are available to NSW residents. It can assist in the making of wills, financial estate planning and the making of powers of attorney.

Synapse is the leading advocacy organisation in NSW for people with brain injury. They also support their carers and family. They can assist with support and representation. Freecall 1800 673 074.

Vision Australia provides services, information, advice and suppor for people who are blind or have low vision.

Disability Advocacy Finder connects people in need with essential advocacy services. It can help people with disabilities, carers and their families.

My Aged Care Services Finder helps you find aged care providers and services in your area. It can provide information about a specific provider and steps you need to consider.
