Financial Management

Financial management order with a woman raising her hand and dollar signs on it

Sometimes we choose a financial manager for you.

We call this a financial management order.

Most financial management orders last for a long time.

We will make a financial management order if:

Map of NSW with a home, a car and a dollar sign
  • you have assets in New South Wales
A man frowning with thumbs down, with a car, a home and a dollar sign next to him
  • you can’t look after your assets on your own
A woman smiling with thumbs up
  • we think it will be better for you.

Your assets are things you own that have value, such as:

  • a car
  • a house
  • money you have saved.

Your financial manager might be a:

A couple close together holding hands
  • family member
Two women are smiling.
  • friend
A man is pointing at himself.
  • NSW Trustee and Guardian.
A man with two thought bubbles - his family and a cross is in one, and his friends and a cross are in the other

We choose the NSW Trustee and Guardian if your financial manager can’t be your:

  • family member
  • friend.

When we choose your financial manager, we might choose:

A woman is pointing to herself and having another hand raised up.
  • one person
Four people looking at a folder together on a table, they are smiling.
  • more than one person.
A woman with thumbs down, and a financial management order and a cross

We can’t make a financial management order if we think you can make decisions on your own.

Reviewing your financial management order

Sometimes we might review a financial management order.

A man with his hand raised, next to him is a review document icon.

You can ask us to review your financial management order.

When we review a financial management order, we check to see what:

  • works well
  • needs to be better.

We will end a financial management order if:

A man smiling with thumbs up, a house, a car and a dollar sign
  • you can make decisions about your assets on your own
A man smiling with thumbs up
  • it will be better for you.

Anyone can ask for a review if they’re worried about someone who has a financial management order.
