Hearing preparation checklist

Use the checklists below to help you prepare for your hearing. Check your notice of listing from NCAT for the type of hearing you will be attending. 

The information on this page applies only to cases in NCAT's Consumer and Commercial Division

How to prepare for a conciliation and group list hearing

In-person

Checklist icon Bring your documents to the hearing as the case may be heard on that day.

Checklist icon Make sure any witnesses are available to be telephoned or dial in to the hearing if required.

Checklist icon The case may be finalised at the conciliation and hearing (group list).

Virtual (video or telephone conference)

Checklist icon If you are the applicant, make sure you have sent all of your documents to NCAT and the other party. This requirement is part of the directions on the 'Notice of conciliation and hearing'.

Checklist icon Make sure any witnesses are available to be telephoned or dial in to the hearing if required.

Checklist icon Test your equipment. Make sure your camera and microphone are working. 

Checklist icon The case may be finalised at the conciliation and hearing (group list).

How to prepare for a directions hearing 

Checklist icon Decide if you will ask permission to be represented by a lawyer or another person. 

Checklist icon Write down a list of any issues that might arise in the hearing.

Checklist icon Bring a list of your witnesses and their details, including:

  • Name 
  • Contact number
  • Qualification of expert witness

Checklist icon Consider speaking to the other party about a settlement.
