Hearing preparation checklist

Use the checklists below to help you prepare for your hearing. Check your notice of listing from NCAT for the type of hearing you will be attending.

How to prepare for a conciliation and group list hearing

  1. Bring your documents

    Bring all your documents and other evidence to the hearing, as your case may be heard that day.

  2. Check witness availability

    If you have any witnesses, make sure they are available by phone at the time of the hearing

  3. Check your case type

    Visit the relevant case type page to learn what to expect at your NCAT hearing.

  4. Be ready for conciliation

    You may be asked to attempt conciliation with the other party before the hearing.

    Be prepared for the case to be finalised at the conciliation and hearing (group list).

How to prepare for a virtual hearing (by video or telephone)

  1. Send your documents

    If you are the applicant, make sure all documents and evidence are sent to NCAT and the other party.

  2. Check witness availability

    If you have witnesses, check they will be available by phone at the time of the hearing.

  3. Check your case type

    Visit the relevant case type page to learn what to expect at your NCAT hearing.

How to prepare for a directions hearing

  1. Consider representation

    Decide if you will ask permission to be represented by a lawyer or another person.

  2. Prepare your issues

    Write down a list of any issues you want to raise at the hearing.

  3. Prepare witness details

    Bring a list of your witnesses and their details (name, contact number, qualifications).

  4. Consider settlement

    Consider speaking with the other party about settling the case before the directions hearing.
